These days this old netbook is primarily used to connect my living room TV to my Slingbox, since that app is not available to me on the TV's operating system, and I can't get the Roku Slingbox app to work. I'd stick to a 120GB SSD and then throw either or both OS's on the system.Friends, this is regarding my backup notebook/netbook, the Asus EEEPc 1201pn (LINK to specs for this PC) from which I am making this post. You may also want to limit your upgrades to this unit as you may be throwing money out the window. Also, please note that the this little unit has a processor that does not support 64-bit so you may want to rethink your plan. I actually came across 2GB DIMS so I purchased one only and then removed the one DIM from slot2 and now I have a total of 3. I am not concerned with these reports, just some level of improvement with CPU stability. I know that eeectl was written for the 701, but I have seen reports, though not very detailed, of getting the 1000H to 2.0 GHz. I expected to be better off with the 32-bit version of Win7, but have yet to discuss this with IT types. I would add memory if I could locate some.

Where did you find a 3 GB RAM upgrade? ASUS claims only 2 GB. The 1000H is a SATA machine so, I'll never see the performance of a SATA III SSD, but if the 1000H expected lifetime is not much longer it brings to mind the idea of transplanting the SSD to another machine. To get the 5-yr warranty, one post here recommended the Intel 520 and 530, the OCZ Vector and the Samsung 840. Gives an overall favorable impression, but I have also found here that it is a 3-yr warranty SSD (as are Kingston, Crucial, etc.).

This review of the Seagate 600 here on Tom's: So far, both of mine are fine with the exception of this HD issue, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've opened my 1000H several times so, I am familiar with performing this carefully. Use a credit card to shimy the unit apart.

I'd opt for the 120GB SSD as Windows 7 Home Premium's foot print is roughly 25-30GB however be careful when opening up the eee pc as its all plastic and the tabs are very thin and delicate.

The overclocking utility was originally written for the 701 series so tread carefully. I also upgraded the RAM from 1GB to 3GB.Īs for overclocking, you may not see that much of a performance increase.Īs for upgrading the OS, you will most likely be limited to Windows 7 Home Premium x86 or the 32-bit version. I have the Asus eee PC 1215N and I have swapped out the original mechanical HDD for an 80GB Corsair SSD. New hardware is a big step in the future. Please be advised I have to keep the 1000H operational because, it is the newest pc I own. If this is a robust application it could also help me in that I read that it can also be used with the 1000H. Lastly, I learned of the Atom overclocking utility 'eeectl' recently and downloaded it.

However, a few days ago I realized this may be beneficial for upgrading to Win7, but the 1000H is not a 64-bit system so, I am uncertain how to evaluate this issue.

I first gave consideration to the SSD when I regarded it as a potential 'form of technology upgrade' in that it may generate less heat than a conventional HDD (?). The obvious question is, "Are there other choices?" This is, the 600 SSD in 120/240/480 GB capacities. This appears to be a SATA 3.0 Gbs interface and Seagate's website indicates they have a solution for people in my situation. I suspect it has been damaged and want to consider replacing it with a SSD as I also need to consider upgrading from XP Home to Win7 (I plan a dual boot with a LInux distribution too - possibly Fedora, but I remain open to suggestions on this OS issue.). One of my 1000H's features a Seagate Momentus 160 GB 5400 rpm HD.
